ESET: Co-ordinated efforts by various law enforcement agencies across the globe have resulted in the Avalanche network being shut down, which for several years has offered several botnet operators extra protection against domain blacklisting and blacklisting.
ESET advises users to control their computers through the free tool ESET Online Scanner to determine if they have been infected by any of the botnets using the network. The tool removes the harmful content it finds on system free.
Avalanche is a network known as fast-flow or constantly changing, and consists of malicious hosts that act as proxy servers.
This technique makes it difficult for security experts to map the attack infrastructure and identify the real one command & control server.
ESET has a long history of supporting law enforcement efforts worldwide against cases malicioussoftware, including its case Dorkbot botnet – which infected thousands of computers every week – as well as the Enterprise Windigo, which stole personal information and redirected web traffic to malicious content.
