Snapchat's Evan Spiegel CEO talks about New Year's Super Hack

The CEO of appeared at NBC today Friday in a pre-recorded interview he gave to Carson Daly for violating the site on New Year's Day (iGuRu.gr introduced it first nationwide), which resulted in the 4,6 leak of millions of usernames and phone numbers. Evan was visibly disappointed by the hack – Daly described him as “furious” – but did not apologize to the service.

"That's why we're going to have to work very, very, very hard with law enforcement, with security experts, with internal and external groups, to make sure that we're paying the necessary attention to addressing these kinds of security issues."

As Daly points out in the interview, Snapchat was warned by a security team about the potential dangers just days before the violation occurred. In fact, it may have been months before. But Snapchat underestimated the threat.

"You know, I think we did a lot," he said Spiegel. "I think in a business like this, a business that moves so fast, if you spend time looking back, you are trying to kill yourself."
