The CEO of Snapchat appeared at NBC today Friday in a pre-recorded interview he gave to Carson Daly for violating the site on New Year's Day (iGuRu.gr introduced it first nationwide), which resulted in leakage 4,6 million usernames and phone numbers. Evan Spiegel was visibly disappointed by the hack — Daly described him as "furious" — but did not apologize to its users. services.
"The technological ones businesses are generally susceptible to hacking," Spiegel said in the interview. "That's why we're going to have to work very, very, very hard with law enforcement, with security experts, with internal and external groups, to make sure that we're paying the necessary attention to addressing these kinds of security issues."
As Daly points out in the interview, Snapchat was warned by a security team about the potential dangers just days before the violation occurred. In fact, it may have been months before. But Snapchat underestimated the threat.
"You know, I think we did a lot," he said Spiegel. "I think in one business like this, a business that moves so fast, if you spend time looking back, you're trying to kill yourself.”
