The Facebook announced some time ago that it developed a application με την οποία οι κάτοικοι των Φιλιππίνων θα έχουν δωρεάν access on the Internet from their mobile phones. It is now the seventh country to benefit from this initiative, after Colombia, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, India and Zambia.
This initiative aims to help those who can not afford Internet access. And it does not seem strange to you, because the statistics show that two-thirds of the world still do not have access.
Facebook is not alone in this crusade. As we previously mentioned you has partnered with several Internet technology companies to expand their campaign called "Internet for All," which, just as the name suggests, aims to increase the number of people who will have access to services of the Internet. As for the Philippines, statistics have shown that only 38% of the population can access the Internet.
The application is called Internet.org and will allow users mobile phones to have access to various websites such as Wikipedia, bing.com, as well as websites with topics such as weather, health, education, work. And of course it will provide free access to Facebook pages and Facebook Messenger.
While some may disagree, Internet access can actually improve the quality of life of people living in the Philippines.
Mark Zuckerberg he wrote on his page on Facebook that "We are one step closer to connecting the world, as we launched Internet.org today in the Philippines." Along with his message, he shared a photo of Jaime, a guide in Manila using Facebook and the internet to communicate with her loved ones who have moved to Dubai.
However, the idea was not well received by everyone. There are people who do not praise this initiative on the grounds that it is an additional way for sponsors to earn more money from advertisements.
