The popular Facebook Messenger application no longer requires you to have a Facebook account. From today, new Messenger users in the US, Canada, Venezuela and Peru can sign up using a name and phone number.
Messenger can still be used with a Facebook account. New users will see a button “Connect with Facebook” on the home screen, which will import their contacts and their Facebook account connections.
Of course, Facebook also encourages new Facebook users to "take advantage of messaging on many mobile devices, the Internet and tablets."
This requires you to use a name and phone number. If you do not, your conversations will not be synchronized across all of your devices.
The largest social network, reports that its target movement(standalone Facebook Messenger) is to reach more people.
Using Messenger without an account connected to Facebook can make the application more appealing to businesses. At F8, Facebook announced for the first time Messenger Business as a means of direct communication between consumers and businesses.
So the traffic no longer requires a profile on Facebook may be aimed at businesses that have so far connected Facebook with sofa and coffee.
The announcement does not mention any others countries (Hellas). We hope to see the new feature in Greece soon.
