Facebook Messenger without a Facebook account

The popular Facebook Messenger application no longer requires you to have a Facebook account. From today, new Messenger users in the US, Canada, Venezuela and Peru can sign up using a name and phone number. Facebook Messenger

Messenger can still be used with a Facebook account. New users will see a “Connect with Facebook” on the home screen, which will import their contacts and their Facebook account connections.

This requires you to use a name and phone number. If you do not, your conversations will not be synchronized across all of your devices.
