Usually at Internet and especially in social networks, such as Facebook, we see happy moments from our friends. But there are also times when you will see really sad posts from people who are searching the web for an outlet to get help.
Facebook seems to have realized this, and so a tool is being released worldwide that allows anonymous reporting if you think a friend of yours might want to commit suicide.
The New York Times reports that the new tool works like a regular button that allows you to report posts, but also choose to let Facebook itself offer a helpline or support line to guide people in a difficult time.
Previously, this tool was only available to some English-speaking users, but is now available worldwide. Facebook says it has a team dedicated to monitoring reports coming from the tool 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Here we should mention what it means to analyze data. As you know Big Data of Facebook hide treasures.
In 2014, Facebook had a lot of problems when it was revealed that it handles user schedules by prioritizing positive news over negative messages. The social experiment was conducted by the largest social network to see how it can affect the user's emotions.
However, we also know that Facebook's algorithm prioritizes the posts they have comments of the type "Congratulations" and wishes in general. This is why you almost always see updates from friends celebrating anniversaries, name days, birthdays, baptisms, weddings, etc.
According to the New York Times, Facebook researchers also found that posts with negative connotations elicited comprehensible comments.
So at a time when smartphones and social media are an extension of ourselves, FB traffic is a small but targeted step that will offer help and social work.
The new operation of the social network also has telephone lines of support centers in Greece:
"Suicide prevention helplines provide assistance to those who need it. If you want support for yourself or a friend, contact a helpline. If you are worried about a friend, encourage him or her to contact a helpline as well. ”
