Factory reset on TV hit by ransomware

LG has donated to Darren Cauthon New Year's Secret Hidden Recovery Instructions for Google TV used when hit by ransomware.

The company initially requested more money than TV costs but retreated and agreed to offer instructions to restore the TV when Cauthon expressed his dissatisfaction with Twitter.ransomware

TV infected by Darren Cauthon's wife when she tried to download an app that promised free . Instead, however, he installed the ransomware, which demanded $500 to unlock Google TV.

Cauthon reported that LG gave him the factory reset steps and she did not want to disclose them publicly, as they are not known even to her customer support technicians.

Darren Cauthon realized his TV was infected when he saw a message on Christmas that purported to be from the FBI. The message said they were found suspicious and that the owner should pay a fine.

But let's see how he managed to delete the ransomware, and let's just mention the following simple steps that might apply to other Google TVs.

With the TV turned off, place your finger in the settings symbol and then another finger on the channel button down (when you want to get down channels). Then take the finger out of the settings, and after the channel button. Then navigate using the volume keys to find wipe data / factory reset.
