Her researchers Kaspersky Lab have detected fake mobile security apps, available through the Windows Phone Store and Google Play, and exploit the name of Kaspersky.
Fake apps that have gone up to popular online stores are not necessarily malicious, but they seem to have no functionality and simply aim at profit.
The fake app spotted in the Windows Phone Store, called "Kaspersky Mobile", costs around $4.3 (€3.1) and has nothing to do with company security.
The same cybercriminals have uploaded many fake apps to the Windows Phone Store masquerading as legitimate programs, including Mozilla Mobile, Avira Antivir, Netscape Mobile, Google Chrome Pro, Opera Mobile, Internet Explorer and Virus Shield.
On Google Play, experts have found an application called Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014. This application is of course not related to the company. Kaspersky's real security solution for mobile is called Kaspersky Internet Security for Android.
"The false app δεν κάνει απολύτως τίποτα για να προστατεύσει τη συσκευή του χρήστη – οι δημιουργοί δεν μπήκαν καν στον κόπο να προσθέσουν ένα ψεύτικο scanner”, αναφέρει ο ερευνητής της Kaspersky Lab, Roman Unuchek.
