First the good news. The United States Senate has rejected a proposal that would have given the FBI increased surveillance powers, such as the ability to search the history browsing us online without a warrant.
The bad ones?
The proposal narrowly managed to be rejected and we could see an amended one version of the same proposal in the near future.
The measure, which was introduced earlier this weekteam by US Sen. John McCain, aimed to give the FBI immediate authority to – as McCain put it – “go after lone wolves” in the wake of the Orlando nightclub mass shooting earlier this month.
The proposal was rejected by just two votes, and one was by Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), who changed his vote at the last minute.
McConnell could make the new bill a reality. Please note that a modified version of it is being prepared for review as early as next week.
