Scammers managed to acquire illegal funds that they spent on buying electronics, generating millions of dollars of economic losses, according to an FBI statement.

It appears that the illegal activity was carried out by Tijuana, Mexico, exploiting the vulnerabilities existing on the servers of a US mortgage broker. The illegal trio hacked into the company's systems and got personal information from its customers who were dealing with mortgage applications.

This yielded sensitive details including names, dates of birth, social security numbers, addresses, assets , tax details, and numbers driver's license and were owned by individuals from California and Florida as well as intermediate states of America.

All of the criminal activity occurred between July 2011 and August 2013, as logging into and accessing the mortgage company's systems and application of customer records was possible without any special authorization or authentication requirement.

Of the three criminals, only the Baden managed to escape the arrest, and is believed to be still in Tijuana, Zona Centro or Zona Norte.
