Firefox 48 will come with Electrolysis enabled

Ο 48 is expected to be released in stable version in August 2016 and will come with one notable change, “Electrolysis”.

firefox electrolysis

This feature, which will be enabled by default, is also known as a multi-function operation or just E10S.

E10S or Electrolysis works much like the technique that chemists call electrolysis, with which they can, for example, split water into και οξυγόνο. Έτσι και για τον Firefox, θα χρησιμοποιείται για να διαχωρίσει μια διαδικασία UI και μια διαδικασία περιεχομένου. Η διάσπαση UI από το περιεχόμενο σημαίνει ότι όταν μια eats up a large percentage of your CPU you will be able to have your tabs, buttons and menus active and functional.

With the arrival of Firefox 48, E10S will be enabled for 1% of users, those who do not use much or no add-ons. If this experiment resolves the issue of excessive CPU power consumption, then the percentage of users for whom E10S will be enabled may increase. If it causes problems, then Mozilla developers will likely suppress it.

The drawings, however, are that with the arrival of Firefox 49, E10S will be enabled for all users who use Firefox without add-ons. According to Mozilla, 40% of all Firefox users never use add-ons.

Electrolysis will enable the program to make each content of each tab as a separate process, which will be independent from the main browser process. This should increase the security of the browser, the program will not "hang" as a reference and it will speed up on multi-core processors.

The disadvantage of this change is that E10S will be incompatible with many popular extensions including NoScript, Ghostery, Flash Video Downloader and Adblock Edge.
