With fingerprint scanners having entered their space smartphones some time ago, Fujitsu went a step further, announcing that it has developed one system recognition of the iris of the eye, which a prototype smartphone incorporated.
Just by looking at the smartphone screen, the user's iris is scanned and the phone unlocks.
As the company claims, this system has a clear advantage over code or fingerprint, as it is difficult to forge and convenient to use. The screen is unlocked with the look, which means that the user's hands are free in every case.
Beyond its use for smartphone security, iris identification could also be used to log into online services without requiring an ID.treatment ID ή κωδικού, επιτρέποντας ευκολότερη και ασφαλέστερη access.
Η Fujitsu intends to explore the possibilities of applying this technology to a wide range of fields, including security systems.
In essence, what the company did was to shrink and improve the current iris recognition technology (which stops changing after the age of two, and is unique to every human) so it can be integrated into a smartphone.
The system "reads" the eye with infrared LED light, taking a photo to save its shape, which is then used for comparison/confirmation.
The two main parts of the system are a special, high performance LED, and a dedicated infrared camera, combined with camera control and biometric identification technologies that have been developing for years.
As far as its range is concerned, the distance required is the standard that a user holds when using his cellphone - that is, it is not required to approach the eye at 10 centimeters. It is noted that on the basis of tests that have been carried out, the infrared LED light is harmless to the eyes.
