Η GCHQ, the British intelligence service is finally going to appear before the Supreme Court in the United Kingdom. The tribunal will be attending as witnesses of class activism groups of liberties.
According to The Guardian newspaper, civil liberties groups accusing GCHQ include Amnesty International, Liberty, American Civil Liberties Union, Privacy International and others. All groups believe that the intelligence service is too intrusive in its work.
The legality of the whole situation is of course questionable, given that GCHQ intercepts, collects and uses data. the GCHQ
The case will be heard over a week by the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, Britain's regulator for surveillance laws, and will focus heavily on project Tempora, the mass surveillance operation in which GCHQ is involved.
Project Tempora, if you remember, was leaked by Edward Snowden and featured a secret submarine eavesdropping system cables fiber optics. The program has been tested between 2008 and 2011 and has been operational since autumn 2011.
The British Intelligence Service will not deny or confirm the Tempora, but considering that all the information that came from Snowden was true, there is no doubt about whether the program was real or not.
However, the British Government has repeatedly stated that GCHQ is moving under the country's legislation. In addition, he claims that the service is under strict control, as the US government has said, until it turns out that the oversight body has no idea what the service was doing.
