There are times when you need to install Windows 10, 8.1 or 8 for evaluation or essay into a virtual machine, like VirtualBox for example. You may not want to activate your Microsoft product every time with the key you use on your regular computer.
For this purpose, you can use Generic keys from Microsoft, which will allow you to install the operating system, but not to activate it.
So with an ISO file containing the files installationof Windows, you can install the operating system using one of the following Generic keys. Window 7 does not need a key to install it.
Generic keys for Windows 10
There are two generic keys for Windows 10 at this time. One is for the standard edition and the other is for the Enterprise edition.

The RTM version of Windows 8 was available in the following versions: Windows RT, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise.

Remember, with these keys you can only install Windows for some evaluation or test for a short time. They can only be activated when you import a genuine key that you purchased from Microsoft.
Once you decide to turn on your installed operating system, you will need to change the general product key for the real key you have purchased.
