Geofeedia was selling social media data to the authorities

Το Twitter ακύρωσε την συμφωνία πρόσβασης της υπηρεσίας Geofeedia στα δεδομένα του, καθώς υπήρχαν αναφορές ότι οι πληροφορίες που συλλέγει η are used for police surveillance.

Geofeedia offers location-based search capabilities that law enforcement can use to conduct what is called "geo-fencing" and capture media posts, locating specific areas from comments, videos and images .

According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Geofeedia has accessed the Instagram API, Facebook (Feed API) and the Twitter database through an agreement.

However these were used by Geofeedia to make available data for sale to third parties, or even fourth parties, who knows.

Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have now canceled their contracts with the company, stopping any access to users' public data.

What would happen if the Daily Dot was not revealed? Do you really believe that social media did not know Geofaedia's activities?
