Google has released a security update for its Google Chrome browser 114 that addresses four different security issues in the browser. The desktop and Android versions of Google Chrome are affected by the vulnerabilities, as well as third-party browsers that use Chromium as their base.
The security update is already available and if you want you can install it manually by opening the internal address chrome://settings/help.
Chrome will check for updates and automatically download the new version. After the update you should restart the browser.
The following versions of Google Chrome will protect you from potential attacks that use the latest security holes:
Google Chrome for Windows: 114.0.5735.198 or 114.0.5735.199
Google Chrome for Mac: 114.0.5735.198
Google Chrome for Linux: 114.0.5735.198
Google Chrome for Android: 114.0.5735.196
The security holes that the update fixes
Google only gives us three out of four security holes which he fixed in the latest Chrome update. The company does not disclose information about security issues it has discovered internally.
The three vulnerabilities listed on the official Chrome Releases blog have a high severity rating, second only to critical:
[$ 10000] [1447568] High CVE-2023-3421: Use after free in Media. Reported by Piotr Bania of Cisco Talos on 2023-05-22
[$ 5000] [1450397] High CVE-2023-3422: Use after free in Guest View. Reported by asnine on 2023-06-01
Google does not mention anything about whether there are already exploits for the above bugs.
Update your application as soon as possible to protect it from possible attacks. Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Brave, Vivaldi or Opera are also affected and will be updated in a few days.
