The most recent version of it Chrome Snagit enables the screencast video to be saved as animated GIF, a format that is perfect for fast short demos publishing. The only condition is that your recorded video should be up to 20 seconds. GIF is sent to your Google Drive or you can download it locally.
If you do not use the latest version of Google Chrome, it may take a few steps to turn on screencasting support in your browser.
The first step is to install the SnagIt app and the extension from the Chrome Store (both available for free). Then you should go from your browser to address chrome://flags and click the setting that says Enable Screen Capture Support or Enable Screen Capture Support in getUserMedia(). Restart your Chrome browser.

The only downside is that the SnagIt extension for Chrome can capture either your entire desktop screen or a single browser window. That means you don't have the option of choosing a custom one regions.
Another good alternative is the Screencastify extension for Chrome. Videos are saved as .WebM files that play in almost all modern browsers without plugins. Screencast videos can upload to Youtube and Google Drive, but it does not create GIFs.
