At Google I/O developers conference held in Mountain View, California, company introduced a new video calling app called Duo or Google Duo. The new app was introduced as a complement to the also new Allo messaging app that was introduced at the same conference.
Google Duo calls are end-to-end encrypted, Google engineering director Eric Kay said. But the feature that makes Duo stand out more than others services βιντεοκλήσεων που είναι φιλικές σε κινητές συσκευές (όπως το Skype, το Facebook Messenger, and Facebook's WhatsApp) not to mention Google Hangouts, is a feature called Knock Knock.
It's a "live video stream from the caller before you even pick it up," Kay said. This way you can “not only see who is calling you, but get an idea of where and why they are calling you. A smile, a beach, or a newborn baby will appear to you right now, and making calls is natural and spontaneous. ”
Like Hangouts, Duo video calling works with WebRTC. The Duo also relies on a fairly new Google protocol called QUIC (for "fast UDP Internet connections"), and can perform a "seamless transfer" of calls between Wi-Fi and mobile connections telephony, Kay said.
Duo does not support calls between more than two phone lines.
The app will be available for Android and iOS this summer, according to Kay.
