Art Camera: Ahead of Google I/O, the company unveiled a new high-end camera analysiss that is able to pull photos "gigapixels." Don't go crazy it's not for selfies…
It is called Art Camera, created for the Google Cultural Institute that wants to photograph artworks from museums around the world, archive and preserve them.
Google reports that the camera is so powerful that you can zoom in to see all the touches and drops from the grease on a Van Gogh panel, for example.
The photography will be done piece by piece, to capture extremely high ressolutions from each part of the image. The photos will then be sent to Google's servers to be edited. THE procedure this one is reported to take only a few hours, whereas normally it would take days.
Currently, the archive The company has archived more than 1.000 works of art from collections around the world. You can explore the gallery and search for the artworks you would like to see.
Google has manufactured 20 only Art Cameras that will be used for filing purposes and are currently photographing 2D.
