Google Play Protect: In an effort to keep Android users safe from malware programs on their phones, Google has new security features with Play Protect for all devices powered by Google Mobile Services 11 and up.
Google reports that it will automatically scan apps from the Play Store installed on your phone to make sure there is no malware.
For apps with signs or suspicions of malware, it will be possible to exclude or remove them completely from your device.
The service was announced for the first time in May, but is already becoming widely available.
Play Protect uses mechanical learning, and can detect new attacks that have just begun to run (yes even zero-day).
However, if you use apps from other Stores outside of it Google Play, you are still at risk of being hit by a virus.
