Google introduced last Monday the ability to display song lyrics on searching results.
So the next time you look up in her search engine Google the lyrics of a song, for example if you search for the phrase "Total eclipse of my heart lyrics" by Bonnie Tyler, the lyrics of that song will appear first in your search results.
The new feature, according to the Billboard, is part of a multi - year licensing agreement with Toronto - based LyricFind Canada that will lead to a new source of income for musicians and publishers.
The new feature is accessible from today only for users of USA, although the deal with LyricFind also reportedly includes international licensing. Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, LyricFind CEO and co-founder Darryl Ballantyne believes it will be "a significant revenue stream" that could amount to millions for music companies and songwriters.
Mr Ballantyne told Billboard: "Everything will be based on usage. "The more appearances, the more people will be paid."
For users, this means you no longer have to click σε έναν τρίτο ιστότοπο για να δείτε τους στίχους σε ένα τραγούδι. Μέχρι στιγμής η αναζήτηση στοίχων βασίζεται σε διάφορα bootleg sites που αν και εισπράττουν διαφημιστικά έσοδα δεν έχουν άδεια να δημοσιεύουν τους στίχους.
And, of course, Google will also benefit from the link it will provide to every complete verse with Google Play, where users can buy the song.
