Alert by the UN for high debit fraud through Messenger

Information of the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate to citizens to avoid being deceived by mass messages, sent through a known MessengerFacebook-Messenger

The messages in question are circulated through a well-known "messenger" application for smart , where they inform the recipient that they have won a mobile phone from a well-known company, especially of great value

We urge citizens to be very careful not to persuade and opt out of the proposed hyperlinks, nor to respond to such messages because they refer to fraudulent high-pay subscription service

The Greek Police's Electronic Crime Prosecution Division, in its preventive action to prevent public deception, informs citizens that in recent days there has been an upsurge in the sending of misleading messages via a known messenger application to a large number of smart mobile phone owners .

In particular, recipients of the disputed messages are random users of the application, informed that the owner of the particular mobile number has been selected and has won a mobile phone of a known company, of particular value.

They are then encouraged either to select a hyperlink sent to the message to finish sending the phone, or to type their postal address or telephone number.

If users are convinced and opt for the suggested way of supposedly sending the phone, they unknowingly activate their participation in high-paying subscription service.

The Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate advises users who receive such messages to be particularly careful not to respond, not to register or send personal information by responding to messages with the above content, as they are by no means true.

It is reminded that citizens can communicate, anonymously or by name, with the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate, in order to provide or to report illegal or fraudulent acts or activities carried out online, at the following contact details:
