Hongmeng comes with Huawei's operating system

Hongmeng: Huawei recently registered a new brand name for its upcoming operating system that is supposed to replace Android and on its devices.

The upcoming OS has been dubbed Hongmeng, and it appeared in documents from the Trademark Office of China's National Intellectual Property Administration, confirming that Huawei is developing its own OS.

According with CGTN, the application was filed on August 24, 2018 and the Hongmeng trademark is valid from May 14, 2019 until May 13, 2029.

Hongmeng

Huawei seems to have been waiting for the problems that occurred recently, and has established Hongmeng as a brand name since the summer of 2018. Huawei executives have repeatedly stated that they are developing an internal operating system to replace Windows and Android. So after the banning of Android by the United States government the company will probably accelerate growth.

Earlier this month, US Pres Trump signed an order banning Huawei from using those from US-based companies, including Google and Microsoft, which provide the Chinese company with operating systems for its devices.

Hongmeng is supposed to replace both operating systems, and is reportedly being developed as a platform that will run on both smartphones and tablets.

According to Huawei executives, Hongmeng is expected to be launched in China this year, while globally it will be available by 2020.

The biggest for Huawei however, it is not developing an operating system, but creating an ecosystem of applications that will make its adoption attractive.

"Δεν είναι δύσκολο να βρούμε ένα νέο λειτουργικό σύστημα, αλλά το δύσκολο είναι να οικοδομήσουμε ένα οικοσύστημα γι 'αυτό", ανέφερε ο ιδρυτής και διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Huawei Ren Zhengfei.

Hongmeng will have its own App Gallery (by Huawei), so that users can access selected apps that are already available on this . It will of course be a challenge for the company to expand its app store to become an alternative to the Google Play Store.
