In Windows 8 / 8.1The Microsoft introduced the Ribbon [Ribbon] on Windows Explorer so that the many Explorer commands can be more appealing when you need them. But most users do not like it because it distributes commands on multiple tabs and occupies very vertical space. Users prefer to have more space in the Explorer window [Explore], so some have already figured out how to minimize the ribbon. Let's see how to disable the Ribbon in Explorer.
For those who do not understand what it means Ribbon [Ribbon] we present the following picture:
Windows 8 / 8.1 provides an embedded way to minimize Ribbon in File Explorer. Just press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F1 into a every open window Explorer, and Ribbon will be minimized: To reappear, tap the shortcut Ctrl + F1 once more.
Alternatively, you can minimize with the mouse. Click the small arrow in the upper right corner of the Explorer window to minimize or show the ribbon. Or you can simply double-click any item on the Ribbon tabs, then double-click again to restore it. In the minimized situation, you can use the Ribbon as a bar menu, where it will return to a minimized state after every single click on a command.
Another way is to modify the policy teamand force Explorer to always start with the Ribbon minimized.
Press the keys Win + R together on your keyboard. The Run [Run]. Type the following in the Run box, and then press Enter:
gpedit.msc
In the left pane of the Local Group Policy Editor window, go to the following path:
Ρυθμίσεις του χρήστη\Πρότυπα διαχείρισης\Στοιχεία των Windows\File exploration
Now find the setting that is called Starting the File Explorer with the ribbon minimized in the right pane, and double-click it.
The policy window will open. Turn it to "On" and apply the option below for you.
The above setting can also be done by editing the registry.
- Open Registry Editor (Click Win + R and write Regedit in the new window).
- Go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Explorer
If this key does not exist, simply create it.
- Create or modify the named 32-bit DWORD value ExplorerRibbonStartsMinimized . To start Explorer with the Ribbon ribbon always minimized, enter the given ExplorerRibbonStartsMinimized value equal to 3. To start Explorer with Ribbon always maximized, make it equal to 4. Delete the ExplorerRibbonStartsMinimized to reset the default behavior.
That's it. Now you can adjust the Ribbon's behavior according to your personal preference.
