Currently in beta, HTC Power To Give aims to mobilize Smartphone owners to harness the untapped processing power of their mobiles to help answer some of the biggest questions in our society. At the moment, the fight against cancer, AIDS and Alzheimer's, the need to ensure that every child has clean drinking water and even the search for extraterrestrial life are all made by contributing voluntary IT platforms.
HTC Power To Give allows users to use their Android Smartphone to provide tangible support in vital research fields such as medicine, natural sciences and ecology, and developed in collaboration with Dr. David Anderson (University of Berkeley, California). The project is intended to support the world's largest voluntary initiative in computing and will take advantage of the powerful capabilities of processing a global smartphone network.
The power of the numbers
One million HTC One devices that would participate in a project through HTC Power To Give could offer processing power similar to that of one of the world's 30 supercomputers (equal to a PetaFLOP). This could drastically reduce research times for organizations that would otherwise have to spend years analyzing the same amount of data and potentially speeding up significant breakthroughs in vital areas by weeks, months, years or even decades.
For example, one of the programs that are already participating in the initiative is IBM's World Community Grid, which gives anyone an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of science by donating the untapped power of their computer, Smartphone or Tablet to humanitarian research. So far, World Community Grid volunteers have contributed to near-900.000 peak year research.
Unlimited future possibilities
Cher Wang, President of HTC, commented: "We have often used innovation to bring about changes in the mobile phone industry, but this program is going one step further. With HTC Power To Give, we want to give everyone the opportunity to devote their untapped processing power to their Smartphone to contribute to projects that can change the world. "

Imagine how much we could change the future of our children if even a small percentage of these Android device users could divert some of their unexploited processing power to help find answers to the questions that concern us all. "
Registration is too simple
After downloading the HTC Power To Give app from Google Play™, Smartphone owners can choose the research program to which they will divert some of their mobile's processing power.
