The Internet is undoubtedly the biggest "radio boot" on the planet, as, especially in the age of social media, rumors have the opportunity to circulate widely before it is cross-checked whether they are true or not.
In terms of Google and its search engine performance, it would clearly be a huge advantage in evaluating search results if the pages presented were also evaluated based on their reliability / validity. On this very object, as reported in a New Scientist article, the American giant of technology is developing a "fix" for evaluating websites based on this very criterion.
The company's research team adapts this model to evaluate the reliability of our page instead of its impact on the web. Instead of counting inbound links, the system - which has not yet started to use normally - counts the number of inaccurate reports / false events on a page. "A source who has few false facts is considered credible," the team notes in the paper. The "score" that is formed for each page is the "Knowledge-Based Trust score". The software works using the "Knowledge Vault", which is the huge database of events that Google has collected from Internet: facts on which the Web "agrees" unanimously are considered true. Websites with controversial information rank lower in the rankings.
Several applications δραστηριοποιούνται ήδη πάνω σε αυτό το αντικείμενο, με characteristics examples include LazyTruth and Emergent, as well as services such as Snopes, PolitiFact, and FactCheck.org.
According to a Washington Post article, the whole project is still in the theoretical stage.
