When Red Hat's acquisition announcement from IBM was announced, employees of the largest open source software company did not get it so well.
But it looks like life will go on as before for Red Hat employees. The big difference? The company will be able to use the huge pconditions of IBM.
With IBM, Red Hat will retain its autonomy. CEO Jim Whitehurst and his current management team will continue to lead the company. Red Hat will maintain the existing facilities, the commercial ones signaland Red Hat's unique leadership style.
The last thing IBM wants is to turn Red Hat into another brand name company. "Red Hat must and will remain independent," said Arvind Krishna, IBM senior vice president of hybrid cloud.
This idea is not as radical as it sounds. Too many parts of IBM have been given enormous liberties. Outwardly the company appears to operate like a monolithic kingdom, but in reality it is a subset of kingdoms under the same name.
For example, all of Red Hat's open source programs and operating systems such as RedHelp Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Fedora, CoreOS, Ansoft, WildFly (formerly JBoss) and many others will continue to grow as before. In addition, all open source programs supported by Red Hat, such as the OpenStack cloud, will continue to be supported.
Paul Cormier, president of Red Hat's products and technologies, said the acquisition would not have an impact on the day-to-day operations of the company.
On the day we close, there will be nothing different, it will be the job as usual with the same road maps and we will continue to do what is right for the community. There will be no changes, I do not know how to say otherwise, there will be no change in the way we work with the Linux community.
In addition, Red Hat will continue to support all of its existing partners. Yes, this includes competitors in the cloud of IBM.
"Red Hat will continue to support existing partnerships with other cloud providers," Cormier said. These partners include Microsoft with Azure, Amazon Web Services and the Google Cloud.
The merger and acquisition of the company are related to Cloud.
Cormier says:
We are not an open source company. We are a software company with an open source development model. The secret of Red Hat is that we have put together these two things together. And IBM, on the other hand, has a huge history of business software and open source development.
Thus, as it seems, IBM will continue to be a service provider for enterprise software and Red Hat will continue to be a dominant open source carrier. Together, they hope to become the biggest hybrid hybrid power in the 21 century.
