Intel is going to acquire the company construction w devices, Basis, for an amount estimated at 100 to 150 millions dollars, after winning the auction held by the company.
According to a TechCrunch publication, Basis was in talks with many other companies, including Google, and conducted an auction to obviously choose the highest price.
Basis, which competes in the wearables market with applications Jawbone and Nike, has managed to secure 7% of the market. Intel, on the other hand, has become interested in wearable devices in recent years and has presented several concepts, such as a Bluetooth headset with Siri and smart-chips at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show.
As far back as September, Intel has announced its Quark line of SoCs for use in wireless systems, but has yet to unveil one. Rival chipmaker Qualcomm, on the other hand, has already started building one SmartWatch (Toq) which is rumored to be used by HTC to develop its own wearable devices.
