Imagine an Internet without Google

Nicholas Carlson's book “Marissa Mayer and the Fight to Save YahooDescribes the past, present and future of the troubled Internet giant. What makes an impression is that its address Yahoo could influence the course of another tech giant - her Google.google paint

Yahoo had the opportunity to buy the main one of Google (then called BackRub) in 1997, at opportunity, and so Larry Page could continue his academic career. Yahoo of course did not buy Google and let the opportunity pass. Imagine if Yahoo had bought Google then. Page Rank would have been integrated into Yahoo Search and everything would have been different.

Imagine: Without Gmail, YouTube, Google Video, Google Reader, Picasso, Blogger, Orkut, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Google Chrome, Google Web Master Tools, Gogle News, no Gogle.

We can not know if Yahoo Search would be a better product, but given what we know, Yahoo might have been something like Google today. Or maybe not;

Η to have the "audacity" (with or without quotes) to openly follow us anymore, seems to have bought over the entire online community with the services it offers. The ones that everyone knows about, but also the upcoming ones that only Larry Page Labs knows about.

Of course, we can not forget that too many people are criticizing Google as it dominates the search and foreclosure of its competitors. There is always the prolonged phobia that the company can do Skynet, but there really is no other technology company that is so ambitious.

If Yahoo had acquired Google, cars without a driver would have seen them from another company. Would that also be the case with robotics, or even with the extension of human life? It's hard to think of areas that Google has not got to excel.

Microsoft has developed quite a few which are of interest to R&D labs and Facebook is investing in the entire online world through it .org. All projects like these tend to be closely related to the business goals of the companies in question.

By contrast, no company other than Google is so willing to invest in so many multi-dimensional projects. Of course, few have the resources to do that, and despite all the legitimate criticism the company faces, there would be a huge hole in the current technology world without Google.

There is definitely a risk from a company that has gained so much power and influence for the future of technology, but the technological scene would be far less interesting without the legion with the over-ambitious geeks of Larry Page.
