What does IPX7 certification on iPhone 7 mean?

Not the iPhone 7 is not waterproof. It is water resistant. Waterproof or waterproof? and what is ultimately the IPX7 certification.

Let's look at the fine print.

Apple reports on iPhone 7:

“The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are resistant to dip, water and dust and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with an IP67 rating according to IEC 60529. Dive resistance, water and dust are not permanent conditions and as a result of normal wear and tear the strength may decrease. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone, refer to the user guide for cleaning instructions as fluid damage is not covered by the warranty “..iPhone 7

"iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water, and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to a wet iPhone? refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.”

"IPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are resistant to dip, water, and dust…"

It is not waterproof. It is not impenetrable.

"Ζεται Tested under controlled laboratory conditions…"

Not under real conditions, and not in some test they do in the on YouTube.

"Or IP67 rating according to IEC 60529."

IP stands for “Ingress Protection” and is defined in the international standard IEC 60529. IP ratings consist of two digits. The first shows the level of protection against solids, and the second against liquids (you can get more on special assessments from here). So IP67 means that the iPhone 7 is completely dust-resistant (the first digit), and able to survive in a temporary immersion to 1 meter for 30 minutes in pure water (not Cola, not seawater, and not bleach in a toilet) .

The Samsung's S7 had an IP rating of 68. This, according to Samsung, means that the device is completely dustproof, and it can withstand submersion in water up to 1,5 meters for 30 minutes. In addition, the Galaxy S7 has passed the MIL-STD-810G test [PDF] for 20 specific environmental conditions such as temperature, dust and sand, vibration and vibration, low pressure, and high altitude.

It is worth remembering:

"Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone. Refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions."
"Liquid damage is not covered by the warranty."
