Η iSight warns: A new report details how a group of hackers, believed to be from Iran, used fake social media profiles to gather information from military and political figures in the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and other countries.
Οι ειδικοί σε θέματα ασφάλειας της iSight Partners την έχουν αποκαλέσει την πιο εξελιγμένη εκστρατεία κυβερνο-espionages that has ever been discovered. But let's look at the way the hackers moved who had as their main goal the collection of information.
The trick of hackers has been spreading over the past three years. During the past three years, hackers created fake profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ to get closer to their goals.
They even created a fake news site that republished content from services like the BBC and other major news agencies.
The hackers' goals "remain unclear." According to iSight, hackers could have collected basic activities and locations of their victims, updates from social networks, usernames and codeof access from spear-phishing attacks, as well as other information from malware which was designed to extract information from its targets.
The false news site is registered in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Its content contains malicious iframes that serve malware.
The security company that discovered the malicious campaign worked with the FBI, and to inform government agencies and its customers, published the report you can find here. As for the rest, it's a reminder: Do not trust that you see on social networks.
