The Islamic State, or ISIS, has reportedly developed its own safe messaging app for Android devices, according to security team GhostSec.
The application Alwari, GhostSec reports usesused by the members of the terrorist organization to communicate with each other. The security team discovered that it has characteristics, encrypted communications, but also elementary features that the Telegram communication application also has.
The ISIS terrorist organization seems to have been struggling with the use of conventional social networks such as Telegram and WhatsApp, especially after the attacks by Anonymous revealing the identity of its members.
Although this has not stopped ISIS to use webpages like Tumblr.
Application security is not as complicated and careful as security using applications such as Telegram or WhatsApp according to Fortune, but the ISIS terrorist group can be assured that app developers will not add a backdoor and give it to governments or intelligence services.
The app does not exist on Google Play for obvious reasons, and anyone who cares should look for it in darker corners of the Web. Of course, after being posted we have no doubt that it is already in the hands of secret services.
As we often report, many governments are wondering whether adding backdoors to applications and operating systems could help prevention of terrorism.
But if teams such as ISIS have the know-how to develop their own applications, or social networks, the great losers of backdoors in applications and encryption will only be our personal freedoms.
