This summer, the Japanese government will begin testing in a system that allows foreign tourists to verify their identity and buy goods and services using only their fingerprint.

The experiment will feature fingerprint scanners at popular retailers, tourist centers, 300 total souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and other facilities.
As per current government regulations, verification will still be required identity with a passport to check into a hotel, although the law will allow markets through fingerprints during your stay.

Japan is trialling a similar system that uses a fingerprint for its citizens to allow them to withdraw money from ATMs in a bid to increase better safety and reduce cases of illegal transactions with stolen cards.
