John McAfee, its eccentric and quite provocative millionaire founder companysoftware protectionAntivirus firm McAfee Software, which Intel bought for $7.6 billion in 2010, today filed a document officially naming itself as a candidate for the next US presidential election, which will be held in 2016.
"I am starting a new party that has not yet been announced," McAfee said in the document (PDF) submitted to the Federal Electoral Commission. A spokesman later said that McAfee would set up a new "Cyber Party" or online party.
John McAfee, 69, left McAfee Software in 1994, seven years after starting his business. Intel would be renamed Intel Security last year. Mr. McAfee steps down for President at Alabama, away from McAfee Software's headquarters in Santa Clara, California.
Other candidates in the forthcoming presidential election of 2016 include Creative Commons founder Lawrence Lessig, former CEO of HP Carly Fiorina, and real estate magnate Donald Trump.
But John McAfee is one and only one. The publicity that manages to attract is not the best of its kind.
2012, Belize police chased McAfee because he was suspected of killing his neighbor.
2013, released a video showing how to uninstall McAfee virus protection software. The video, which is no longer available, contained violence, naked, and drug use, always starring McAfee. Another 2013 video shows McAfee shooting with a .50 caliber gun.
2014, during a speech at the Def Con hacking conference in Las Vegas, McAfee announced a new complaints archiving web site, the Brownlist.
It should also be mentioned that it has stated that it uses multiple operating systems and devices. "The reason I do this is because it makes it harder for the NSA, CIA, FBI to track me down."
