Joomla has arrived at the 3.5.0 version, adding many features, with full support for PHP 7 and at twice the speed.
First of all, the Joomla 3.5 is the first version to fully support PHP 7, the latest major version of PHP.
PHP 7 support has done wonders for Joomla, as its developers report that the new 3.5 version is twice as fast when running in PHP 7, and also consumes half the memory over previous versions.
The second major feature added in version 3.5 is extremely interesting for webmasters, especially those who are obsessed with security updates. Joomla now includes a system notices by email that automatically checks the servers for a new version, and then sends an email to the administrator.
Other extra features are the new built-in statistics function that collects data and anonymously sends them to Joomla servers. The Joomla team says they will use this data to gather more accurate information about how the users develop them CMS, for the species of servers, about the kind of database, and all the things that would help Joomla developers to customize and optimize their CMS. All data collected will be publicly available, and anyone will be able to check it.
In addition, Joomla 3.5 supports drag-and-drop image integration, counts articles, and has a special feature that allows the user to download useful system and environment debugging information on their own site.
The new version of Joomla 3.5 is of course free, open source, and available through the GitHub page.
