A Dutch judge decided not to punish an active uploader of the Kickass Torrents, asking him to promise to stop future illegal activities.
The judge's decision was in a case filed by BREIN, a Dutch anti-piracy group that represents several studios of Hollywood. The accused was a 20-year-old Dutchman college student who was found to have uploaded over 750 torrents to the Kickass Torrents website.
The judge's decision was rather lenient, since he essentially left the student unpunished, provided he stops uploading new torrents, deletes his old account and Kickass Torrents account.
If you of course violate the above terms, you will have to pay 2.000 € a day if you do a torrent seed, with a maximum fine of 50.000 € per day.
According to the court documents published by TorrentFreak, the student was staging TV series such as The Walking Dead and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The defendant also agreed to pay court costs procedures.
The judge said he did not regard the case as a case against piracy, but against a person who hindered the economic development of legitimate alternative services such as Netflix and Spotify.
