Microsoft has officially announced the first Moment update for Windows 11 which includes several changes.
Moment periodic updates for Windows 11 had been announced by the company since the release of 22H2, and as it had said would cover new features of Windows 11.
These features with the first moment release focus on:
- Create tabs in File explorer
- Show all open applications in the taskbar
- Recommended actions
- New photo app
- Access to the Amazon app store
What does all of this mean?
1. File Explorer will get tabs, and you won't have to open two windows to move files and folders. He doesn't have their perspective dual windows of Total Commander but it is a big step after years of inactivity.
2. You will be able to see all open applications running as icons on the taskbar. Their number has so far been limited but this is being removed.
3. “Suggested actions” suggest to users what they might want to do. For example, if you mark a phone number it suggests you call it, or if you mark a date it suggests incorporating it into your calendar as an event, etc.
4. The new photo application in addition to the change in its appearance will make it easier for you to organize your photos directly from your mobile phone.
5. You get access to Amazon app store, an online store of Android apps that will play on Windows 11. It has over 50.000 apps and games and is currently available in the US, Japan, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia and Canada.
The new goodies further enhance the experience with Windows 11, thus making it even more advanced and open the differentiation gap with Windopws 10.
The release of Moment 1 update for Windows 11 has already started. The new update is rolling out as an optional package via Windows Update and will roll out to all devices next month as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle.
Needless to say, if you want to download the update today, just go to Windows Update and manually check for updates. Note that you must already be running Windows 11 2022 Update.
