LanguageTool is a browser add-on, a service web but also an optional Windows application. The tool supports various languages such as English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish Greek and many others.
It is one free open source tool for grammar and spelling checking. The service is also available for a fee, but you probably won't need to pay, since the free tool offers checking up to 20.000 words at a time.
LanguageTool is a fantastic alternative to the popular Grammarly tool. It should be mentioned that it is quite privacy friendly compared to other applications.
Browser add-ons (and website) send your text to LanguageTool.org using an encrypted link every time you use the service, and according to the company your data is not stored on servers.

How does LanguageTool work?
You do not need to do anything special. Just enter the text you want in a text field on any webpage. The tool detects any spelling or grammar errors and underlines the errors.
Clicking on such underlined text displays a small pop-up with a suggested replacement. Click on the sentence to instantly replace the wrong word.
Document spell checking works in a similar way, with an icon appearing in the lower right corner of the page. Clicking this icon displays a list of possible errors.
The add-in does not work on some sites such as Office Online. Alternatively you can open a supported email service such as Gmail or Outlook. Press Compose or creation new message, paste the text you need and the tool will check the content for errors.
But the best part is that you do not need a LanguageTool account for use of the tool.
