Lenovo announced yesterday plans to revoke tens of thousands of ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 laptops due to a loose screw that could cause fire on laptop batteries.
According to an announcement published by Lenovo late last night, the company “has found that a limited number of systems may have a problematic screw […] that can damage it battery causing overheating, and potentially putting the devices at risk of fire”.
The Chinese company reports that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 generation laptops built between December 2016 and October of 2017 are said to be affected.
The Consumer Product Safety Committee in the United States estimates that the number of ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebooks in the US is about 78.000, while 5.500 was sold to Canada.
Lenovo said only ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops codenamed “Machine Type” of 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 or 20K4. Owners of the devices can find this code on a sticker on the back of the device devices.
