A recent phishing campaign tries to trick users with a message which is supposed to come from the LG Electronics. Although fraud is obvious at a glance, some recipients may be tempted to open the message.
The interest in this phishing campaign is that the address ηλεκτρονικού ταχυδρομείου του αποστολέα έχει domain σε .edu TLD (top-level domain), η οποία χρησιμοποιείται από ιδρύματα της τριτοβάθμιας educations, like universities.
This kind of email addresses are quite useful for scammers because they are not captured by spam filters, the wrong email messages seem to come from top-level domains.
In this case, it appears that the fraudster sent the message from the University of Vincennes to Indiana.
The message is simple: the recipient is notified that he has won a draw organized by LG, and is invited to send an e-mail to a different address.
Even a non-experienced user could see that there is a mismatch between the two addresses, since to claim the prize the message must be sent to an email of “outlook.com.au. ”
