What does LG have to do with mosquitoes? Last year in India's capital New Delhi, nearly 16.000 cases of dengue fever infections were recorded, the highest in recent years. The culprit: mosquitoes, which thrive and breed in areas of trash and standing water, common in developing countries.
LG believes it can help its customers fight the airborne threat with a new line of new LCD TVs with mosquito repellent technology.
The company explained in a statement:
Insect repellent technology does not include the use of chemicals. LG also reports that the TV it doesn't even need to turn on the Mosquito Away system for it to work. The new TV range is designed and manufactured in India.
The technology itself is not new. LG introduced it into a range of 2014 air conditioners.
LG's anti-mosquito TVs start at $400 for the 80cm model and go up to $700 for the version of 108cm.
