25 August 2016: 25 years Linux

Linux : Today, August 25, exactly 25 years ago, in 1991, (it was a Sunday), the Linus Benedict Torvalds told Minix users, that he began developing a new free operating system as a hobby.

“Hi everyone out there using Minix. I'm making a (free) operating system (like a hobby, it won't be big and professional like GNU) for a 386 (486) AT clone, ”the announcement says.linux

So it just started the operating system that supports all the infrastructures of today's digital world. The Linux Foundation published one about Linux kernel development, along with an infographic you can see at the end of the article.

The 2016 report will show you how fast Linux has evolved, who is behind it and what they are doing to improve the code every day, as well as that finance development.

"Even after 25 years, Linux still serves as an example of how collaborative development can work and can be applied to other open source,” says Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation.

So 25 years later, it turns out that Linux was much larger than GNU and it is everywhere around us. With the Linux kernel, Ubuntu and any Linux distribution work, and it is within a smartphone or behind the 99,9% of the websites that you have access to every day.

Even if you don't see it Linux is there because the entire internet is powered by Linux! They are used in airplanes, Wi-Fi routers, smartwatches, TVs, as well as any other smart device you have in your home.

Happy Birthday on Linux!
