Increase in Linux adoption! Despite the promotion of Windows 10 of Microsoft, the operating system is reportedly recording its biggest drop in market share since last month, while rival Linux has managed to record its biggest market share increase in the last 12 months.
The NetMarketShare reveals that in August of 2017 the market share of Windows market fell to 90,70%, from 91,45% that was the previous month. The fall of 0,75 percent is one of the largest recorded since April of 2016 when their market share collapsed from 90,45% to 88,77% (-1,68%).
This performance is especially significant considering that it comes at a time when Microsoft is finalizing the release of Windows 10 Creators Update while at the same time completing the development of the next version of its operating system which is scheduled to be released on October 17, 2017.
On the other hand, Linux, which is considered Windows competitor, experienced the biggest growth in market share in the last 12 months in August. Linux has improved its share of 2,53% to 3,37% last month.
Linux seems to be the preferred choice for users leaving Windows, while the use of Apple MacOS also dropped in August, which passed from 6,02% to 5,94%.
The growth experienced by Linux is impressive, as in just four months, the platform open code managed to go from 2% to 3,37%. Let's mention that in May of this year, Linux was running on 1,99 percent of desktop systems worldwide.
The good news for Microsoft is that Windows has not fallen below 90%, so they are still feeding 9 to 10 computers worldwide.
