Our acquaintance Sabu, former LulzSec hacker, and FBI whistleblower was ultimately not convicted. The US District Court for the Southern District New York released him on Tuesday after the judge sentenced him to one year suspension.
Sabu or Hector Xavier Monsegur had been charged with a total of twelve felonies for his role in the attacks against Sony Pictures, Nintendo's HB Gary, and other private companies, news agencies and government agencies during the summer of 2011. If he had not cooperated with the FBI would face up to 26 years in prison.
Judge Loretta Preska, who last year convicted him Jeremy Hammond to ten years in prison for hacking to Stratfor, stated that the lenient sentence was the result of the "really special" assistance provided by Monsegur to the authorities since his arrest on June 7, 2011.
