Mageia is a free functional system, based on GNU/Linux and supported by the non-profit organization Mageia.Org.
The name of the Mageia distribution comes from the Greek word "Magia". It is a reference to the wizard Mandrake, which has been used as the original name of the distribution Mandriva Linux.
So the distribution of Mageia:
- began in September of 2010 as a fork of Mandriva Linux,
- has brought together hundreds of friends and a few companies from around the world who contribute to infrastructure, distribution, documentation, availability and support, using Free Software tools,
- has released five major fixed versions in June of 2011, May 2012 and May of 2013, in February of 2014 and in June of 2015.
A new feature of Mageia 5 that is worth mentioning is UEFI support, which means it's now even easier to install it in modern material.
