Martin Aircraft announced that it plans to bring the jetpack to market in the second half of 2016 (PDF). The suit that flies will cost 150.000 dollars approximately.
The device is being developed in the last 35 years, and the Martin says that its jetpack is powered by a gasoline engine 200HP V4. The engine activates two fan ducts giving the owner up to 30 minutes of autonomous flight.
Η company it claims the jet can carry a 120kg payload, and can reach 45mph at an altitude of up to 1.000m.
The New Zealand company presented its latest prototype at an air show in Paris, using a simulator equipped with a Oculus Rift VR that gave visitors the opportunity to experience the product without taking off.
Martin Aircraft had planned the release of the "vehicle" in 2014, with a starting price of $ 100.000 but eventually, as we have already mentioned, it will come at the end of 2016 with a price increased by 50%.
The jet may, of course, seem like a toy for those who can afford it, but Martin chief executive Peter Coker says they aim to market it to emergency teams, government services, Police, Fire and Emergency Services.
The company believes that the ability of the jet to fly in hermetically sealed enclosures and areas or roofed houses covered with cables is a practical alternative to what traditional helicopters do.
