Microsoft is bringing OneDrive Files On Demand to Apple's macOS, which allows platform users to browse cloud storage without downloading data.
OneDrive Files On-Demand is one of the top features of Windows 10 that uses placeholders to speed up and reduce data usage.
The placeholders, which are essentially shortcuts for the archives που είναι αποθηκευμένα στο cloud, επιτρέπουν τη λήψη αρχείων καθώς αυτά χρησιμοποιούνται, χωρίς να χρειάζεται να ανακτηθούν επιπλέον data from OneDrive. This way, users no longer have to completely sync folders because of a single file.
OneDrive On-Demand files have been restored to Windows 10, having been previously removed from the operating system. They started on Windows 8 as placeholders.
On macOS, this feature works pretty much the same as it does on Windows 10. Here's what Microsoft explains: “OneDrive Files On-Demand helps you access all your OneDrive files without having to download them all of data and use storage space on your device.
When you turn on Files On-Demand, you'll see all your files in the Mac Finder and get new information about each file. New files created online or on another device are displayed as files only online, so they don't take up space on your device. When you are connected to the Internet, you will be able to use online files (online files) like any other files on your device."
To use this feature, you must be running at least macOS 10.14 Mojave, and have a local drive that uses the Apple File System (APFS).
OneDrive Files On-Demand is currently in preview stage. Microsoft has not announced when it will be released to everyone, but users can already try the service by downloading client from here (direct download link).
However, do not forget that this is not the final version of the application, so there are still bugs or other stability issues. More information on how to set up the client is available here .
