The second day of Build 2016 is just over. We present (as for the first day) a quick review of what happened at the Microsoft Developer Conference.
All about Azure
BUILD 2016 was launched with Microsoft's cloud computing Azure platform. There were not many announcements, but a lot of demos for developers were presented to help them understand how they can make better use of Microsoft services.
The company announced today that it is building a huge data center to support its growing user base. 85% of Fortune 500 companies use Azure, as do NBC, Ford, 3M, Heineken, Samsung, and many others.
The company introduced an emulator that can show how an app looks on the phone's screen.
The touchscreen works just like a real smartphone!
Developers can use Xamarin Test Cloud to control applications on 1.000 devices and use HockeyApp to monitor performance.
Xamarin will be available to Visual Studio users at no extra charge - even for free to the app's community edition users! It will be open source.
Microsoft (as we mentioned above) presented a BMW video showing how it envisions the future with a car that will show you video-calls in the window.
The company said it would soon release an Azure IoT kit along with one Adafruit board so you can make clothes with lights… ..
Microsoft has also announced a new tool called Power BI Embedded for in-app data visualization directly through the developer's own applications. The tool will be free and will be released by December 1.
Other products of Azure such as Container Service and Service Fabric previews will be available starting today, so you can connect to DocumentDB using MongoDB tools or libraries.
Soon after, Microsoft introduced the suite Office stating that today 1,2 billion users use all Office products.
In a small announcement, they reported that they are getting Office add-ins for Mac, adding support to the Windows, iOS and iPad lineup.
Microsoft also referred to device overload, and how there are too many apps crowding consumer devices. The company wants to solve the issue by providing “conversational interfaces”. tools that will notify when trains leave, make online orders from Office, Skype, and Cortana.
In particular, it announced Office 365 Group Connectors and Skype for Business SDK to enable developers to incorporate these features inherently into Microsoft tools.
