Microsoft has released a new Microsoft Defender (consumers) app that runs on all platforms. In Windows it works like one additionals dashboard for the built-in anti-virus, while on other platforms it adds the Defender engine.
As you may already know, Microsoft Defender is part of the Microsoft 365 platform. Starting today, Microsoft 365 subscribers Our Team and Family can install it on Windows, macOS, iOS or Android devices.
On each of the supported systems, Defender works in a unique way. For example, the version for iOS and iPadOS does not include virus protection, but offers users protection from online phishing. The Android version comes with a built-in antivirus. It can scan the system for malicious applications and check links to protect against phishing attacks.
Finally, in Windows it works as an additional toolbar, but does not override the default Windows Security application. It can also display data from third-party antivirus programs.
Microsoft Defender will let you manage the protection options on your other devices running it. Obviously, uses your Microsoft account for it and supports up to 5 devices.
Microsoft Defender can be useful for users who want to protect multiple devices at once. It will display security alerts and tips to improve your security for each of the devices.
Microsoft promises to add more options to the application in the future. The Microsoft 365 license also includes Defender and all its protection features.
