Microsoft Edge 100 update immediately

We have reported its official release Google Chrome 100 a few days ago. The new version brought a new logo and several bug fixes.
So it's time for Microsoft to release the Edge with the same version number, but without an updated logo.

Microsoft Edge 100 has come with some improvements to the way you manage PDFs. The new version also fixed some security vulnerabilities in the memory.

Microsoft mentions five notable features in the release notes. The first, of course, is that the browser now uses a three-digit version number in the User-Agent. The company notes that this may cause some websites to shut down. So it added a new option to the internal edge: // flags address that freezes the main version number to 99 instead of 100.

IT administrators will now be able to use policies to control this behavior.

Another improvement that version 100 brings is the preservation of memory integrity by protecting indirect calls to it. This is a hardware-enforced stack protection patch available from Windows 8 onwards.

The Edge 100 also brings security updates for nine CVEs you can see here.

Finally, there are two updates related to the way the browser handles PDF files, as discussed above. The Edge 100 has a lightweight PDF reader for previewing files. Works with PDF attachments in Outlook Desktop and local PDF files in . You can also use a policy to enable digital signature validation on PDF files without using third-party applications.

There are also many policy updates. Anyone interested can find details about them at release notes.

Microsoft Edge should update automatically to version 100.0.1185.29. If it does not, you can manually activate the update by clicking on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. Then Help> About Microsoft Edge.
